Hoje quero que vocês conheçam as donas e designers da marca de sapatos de luxo Bionda Castana.  Natalia Barbieri e Jennifer Portman. Mesmo tendo a sede em Londres, todos os sapatos são feitos à mão por artesãos conceituados em Parabiago, na Italia. Por aqui, a marca ainda não é muito conhecida, porém seus “luxury shoes” já conquistaram as páginas das revistas Harper’s Bazaar, In Style, Grazia, Eve, Hello, Glamour, New Woman. Acabaram de ganhar o prêmio de “Best New Talent in Acessories” da Vogue Italia. Chiquérrimas, não?? (na foto abaixo, Natalia com a editora chefe da Vogue Italia, Franca Sozzani)

BiondaCastana was established by you, Natalia, and by Jennifer Portman. What is the role that each one of you play in the company?

I myself take over the role of PR and marketing in the company. Jennifer is the companies Production manager and oversees our sample and final production collections. Plus, there are lots of other jobs in between that we both take care of! Together we work on the design of the collections.

 

The shoes are designed in Britain and handmade by artisans from Parabiago, in Italy. Why not concentrate the design and manufacture in the same place?

Both myself and Jennifer were brought up in London and this is our home hence why we design here. A primary brand promise is to offer customers excellent artisan quality and said quality can only be found in Italy. As a company with Italian heritage, it has a responsibility not only to customers but also in protecting the Italian footwear industry, which is at constant threat from far eastern imports. All materials, accessories, heels, lasts, soles and manufacture is sourced and performed wholly by artisan factories located in Parabiago and the surrounding area, to produce a product which is 100% Made in Italy. 

 

 

 

 

 

What are your sources of inspiration when designing?

No singular theme is chosen to represent the collection each new season, but rather designs are based on what we like and what we would choose to wear. Some styles may be more classic whilst others may be edgier. But each design retains a feminine elegance, perfect for the modern woman, which enables them to be worn season after season. Designs which are wearable, fashionable but not fashion-led and at the same time great walking pieces of art which make a statement. 

 

What is the profile of a BiondaCastana client?

Our customer is someone who understands and appreciates quality. We don’t think of her being in a certain age bracket or aesthetic – it’s her attitude and mindset that would define her as one of our customers. 

What is the average price of the brand’s shoes?

The average price is 670 USD.

 

Do you sell in Brazil? If not, do you have plans of selling here?

The BiondaCastana shoes have been highlighted in some of the most important fashion publications in the world. How long do you think it’ll take until ladies from all over the world fall in love with the brand?

We are working on a strong PR campaign in both NY and Milan which will no doubt capture the attention of women worldwide of the label. I receive emails daily requesting stockist names of the brand worldwide so slowly slowly we’re gaining further brand exposure.

 

What should we expect from the next collection?Spring / Summer 2009 designs invoke thoughts of free-spiritedness, romanticism, feminine elegance and high-fashion glamour. All the while retaining an ‘edge’ and originality, as associated with the Bionda Castana brand. Styles will be primarily dominated by sandals, peep-toes as well as the classic pump. Booties will still feature, but with a summer twist ideal for a warmer climate. Heels will remain tall and slim, at 80mm or 100mm. The trend for ‘softer’ points will continue as will the classic round shape for sandals. Geometric lines will flatter the outline of the foot and curvature of the ankle.
